Getting a COVID Test for Travel in Toronto

It’s a requirement for many countries, including my destination, to get a COVID test. In Toronto, there are a wide variety of options, ranging in price up to a few hundred dollars. I recently did a PCR-COVID test at TorontoRx Travels (also known as Medionerx) and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the experience, here is the review.

 The Story

Finally, after almost two long years, I had the opportunity for a big trip. Triple vaccinated with a recent COVID case, I thought this was the time to work from abroad for a bit (more details on that to come!). Like many countries, our destination required a negative PCR Covid Test within 3 days of arrival.  After looking through many providers, I settled on Medionerx.

While we were tested at the Dalhousie location in downtown Toronto, there are multiple locations, including Toronto, Niagara, Scarborough, Brampton, Hamilton, Aurora, and Waterloo. For updated locations, check out Medionerx website here.

I booked the test online here for the downtown location located at 26 Dalhousie Street, Toronto, ON. The location has a few Green P lots if you’re looking to drive, which we did due to the closure of the Queen St Car.

Dalhousie Street

The building was unassuming, but the signage was fine. The testing facility was on the second floor, just up the stairs.

It was clearly a newer, simple facility that was created in order to satisfy the demand for travelers.

We paid for our test and the nurse that took our payment also did our tests. Our tests were $85 each, which are some of the cheapest reliable COVID-19 PCR tests in downtown Toronto. Additionally, the results also came with a QR code, which is required for some countries.

The tests suck, but that’s traveling in 2022! We were in and out within about 10 minutes, it was a painless experience.

While we paid for results within 2 days, the results came only a few hours later.  The results appear to be from Med-Health Laboratories Ltd. And they include a QR code and our passport number, useful for travel to numerous countries. Additionally, we received notification that Ontario Health had our results within a few hours, great if you desperately need a test and you’re experiencing symptoms.

 The Point

Overall I wouldn’t hesitate to use Medionerx again.  The service was good, the booking process easy, and we got fast, reliable results for a fair price.
